Vision/Mission
Emory University
Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF)

The Global Diabetes Research Center (GDRC) is a unique collaboration between Emory University in Atlanta, USA and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), in Chennai, India. GDRC was established as an inter-disciplinary, cross-cultural hub for epidemiological research of diabetes and its complications in India and South Asia. GDRC is housed in MDRF’s state of the art research facility in Siruseri, a research and technology satellite city near Chennai.

To achieve this goal, GDRC facilitates effective and equal collaborations between South Asian and non-South Asian researchers and institutions, by providing educational and research opportunities in India and other parts of South Asia. GDRC also provides an opportunity for non-South Asian researchers to develop a more global view of diabetes and diabetes risk factors. The platform for this expansion of research capacity is being built using world-class data management, quality assurance, analytical processes, skill sets and experience.

Initial funding for GDRC was provided by Emory’s Global Health Institute. In addition, major contributions of research fellowships, research expertise, physical infrastructure, equipment, and administrative oversight investments have been made by MDRF and Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health.
